The pages on Trench to Trim are general information about the plumbing stages of a remodel or new build, written for people hiring the work; they are not a design, a bid or a code ruling.
Updated
General information only
Every house, site and contract is different. Nothing here replaces the drawings for your project, the plumber's own judgment, or the installation instructions that come with a fixture or appliance. Fixture heights, clearances and test methods described here are typical examples, so confirm them against the specification sheets and the approved plans for your job.
Your building department decides
The model codes quoted here (the IPC, IRC and UPC) are adopted, amended and enforced by states, counties and cities. A number on these pages tells you what the model code says in the edition named; the code your jurisdiction adopted, and your inspector's reading of it, is what applies to your job.
Safety first
Gas piping, water heater venting, relief-valve piping, backflow devices and electrical connections are work for licensed professionals. If you ever smell gas, get everyone out of the building first, without switching anything on or off or using a phone inside, and call 911 or the gas utility once you are outside and well away. If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911 from there.
Outside links
Links to codes, agencies and makers are there so you can read the source yourself. Those sites can change. Links to businesses connected to this site are explained on who owns this site.
Liability
Trench to Trim is provided as is. Its owners are not responsible for decisions made on the strength of these pages; check with your building department and a licensed plumber before any work starts.
